The challenge
"Gap's Brightest Star" was a voting app built around a constellation theme, inviting users to back their chosen stars. The design had to make a voting mechanic feel playful and worth returning to, carry the constellation concept without tipping into novelty, and stay true to Gap's clean, approachable brand. Voting experiences can feel transactional, so the challenge was giving each interaction a sense of moment.
Our approach
We treated the constellation as the organizing visual idea, mapping stars and connections into a layout that felt both celebratory and easy to read. Each interaction state, from browsing to casting a vote to seeing results, was designed to give immediate, satisfying feedback so participation felt rewarding. The palette and type stayed within Gap's relaxed, optimistic register, keeping the experience friendly rather than competitive. Motion and highlight cues guided users toward the vote without instruction, and confirmation states made each contribution feel acknowledged.
The outcome
The finished app turned a simple voting mechanic into an engaging branded moment. Clear interaction states and a coherent constellation theme kept users oriented and encouraged repeat participation, while the visual language stayed comfortably within Gap's established tone.
